This is a guest article from Erica, our life coach. In this article she covers how you can begin to make the changes you want in your life, perfect for the beginning of a new year. Erica joins me at each of the salons to offer a LifeHeal package which includes both coaching and KCR.
Your life is made up of a series of choices. You can choose to do one thing or another. The result of those decisions become your life. Your journey.
You choose to have kids, get married, start a business or get a job. You choose to save or you choose to spend. All these choices affect the quality of your life and the fulfillment and happiness you experience.
At any point you can choose to take a left or right turn and explore somewhere different.
When you’re ready to accept this, you can make a conscious decision to evaluate your life and make a change.
To make the changes you desire, you need to make space.
Create a habit of spending at least 30 minutes a week reflecting on where you are and where you want to be. By really giving yourself some space you can tap into your true feelings and make good decisions based on your findings.
Turn off all background noise or find a quiet spot, the first step is awareness.
To begin to change your life you need to be aware of your current situation. What is your current situation? It might help to write it down.
Write a bit about each of the following.
Who do you live with?
Where do you live?
How are your relationships?
What work do you do?
Is your work fulfilling?
Does your work allow you to utilise your skills?
What hobbies do you pursue?
How do you spend your free time?
Do you feel happy most of the time?
What are the main emotions you feel day to day?
What causes these emotions?
Keep writing until you have nothing left to say about your current situation.
Read over what you have written.
Are you surprised by what you’ve written? What does your current situation really look like?
At this point you may have realised that you’ve fallen into a rut, or you may feel that only a few minor changes are needed.
What you have written is an honest account of your situation. If you feel that you have left anything out, add it now. The more information you have, the better decisions you will make.
Focus on acknowledging your current situation.
Regardless of what you have written you must accept that your situation is the sum of the decisions you have made.
Do not feel guilty or ashamed.
Accept responsibility for the situation and take heart from the fact that you have the power to change direction and make decisions that suit you better in the future.
Believe that regardless of your situation there is always a way to get from where you are, to where you want to be.
It may take months or years, but there is always a way.
Accept that there is possibility for change. Take responsibility and believe that you are in control of your own destiny.
To make a change you must first believe that it is possible. Secondly, you must believe that you have the power to make that change.
With those facts accepted you can begin to assess the situation and identify what changes are required.
For the rest of today become aware of your situation, keep adding to what you’ve written. You may choose to create a collage that reflects your current situation. Pinterest is a great online tool for creating mood boards. Understanding where you currently are will help you create a map to where you want to get to later on.
As your thoughts settle begin to think about the things in your life that don’t fit, the bits that create negative emotions.
Which parts require change? What is taking you further away from the life you dream of rather than closer to it?
